Our Story

The Good Samaritan Funeral Home has been an integral part of the Shreveport community for over a half century. Good Samaritan remains the leader in supporting grieving families as they create memorable and lasting tributes to their loved ones. Just as fingerprints are unique to individuals, so are Good Samaritan’s custom-tailored services which are designed to highlight each person’s life story.

 

 

The Good Samaritan trademark of helping families found root with its founder, Mr. Johnny Davis, Jr. Beginning his career as a young insurance company manager, he was often sought out for advice relating to final rites for his clients. Because of his proven track record of being dependable, honest, compassionate, and a respected advisor, he was encouraged to open his own business. In 1970, armed with a progressive business plan and a remarkable reputation, he emptied with his life savings to purchase a funeral coach and to rent a small building on Milam Street. In the the heart of the historic Allendale community, Good Samaritan emerged. Business blossomed and just one year later, a state-of-the art facility was built at 2200 Laurel Street, where families continue to receive excellence in service today.

Upon Mr. Davis’ demise to death, his daughter Winnifred H. Jackson became President and CEO of Good Samaritan. This stalwart businesswoman ensures that her father’s legacy of excellence in customer service is provided to every family during their time of bereavement. A practicing attorney, Mrs. Jackson’s range of expertise is unparalleled. Her entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with a desire to serve the community, lead to the founding of the Hollingsworth Group, a professional sports and entertainment agency. This CEO helps talented young men and women navigate career paths to dreams being fulfilled.

For five decades, Good Samaritan has been the funeral home of choice as families gather to honor their loved ones. Professionalism, customer loyalty, progressive out-of-the box thinking, innovative ideas, and exemplary personal service are legendary hallmarks that distinguish Good Samaritan as an industry leader in Northwest Louisiana.
